It is natural for us to refrain ourselves from pursuing a stranger whom we are interested in because of our hidden fears. In our minds, we are constantly thinking of whether we should make the first immediate move to approach that person – is my behavior acceptable; what if he/she ignore me? Will I be ridiculed for doing this? What will happen if I do this?
Most of the time because of our fears, we missed the chance to know the stranger which could be our lover or even spouse. I remembered when I was in High School, I always meet the ‘little princess’ at the bus-stop which I hope to know but due to my cowardice of being rejected, I missed many chances to know her although sometimes we would see each other face-to-face. That incident happened very long ago but remained vividly in my mind till now.
Few years later, I saw a slim, fair and lovely girl who was a total stranger to me. But I was very anxious and keen to know her. I kept pondering at a corner of the department store where she was working. I kept thinking of how I could make the first move to know her. It was a very painstaking process as I was still very shy at that time. But eventually, I picked up my courage to ask her whether we could be friends. At that moment, although my heart was pounding very fast, I was surprised that she agreed to my request when I asked her, “Could we be friends?” That day was one of my most memorable days in my life. I had taken the initiative to approach a stranger whom I wish to make friends with. The feeling was great and enjoyable.
From this incident, I realised that the first move is very important. Do not fear, go ahead and pursue whatever you want. If you fail, try again, again and again. It is not going to kill you. Success is in our hands, we can learn from people or books but eventually you have to put action into practice. Nothing happens until an action is done!!!
